Derek King BA.PGCE.MBA

Born: Dumfries, Scotland

A short period in teaching (Art) was followed by 20 years at senior management level working in national and regional newspapers. A break and a return to university to complete an MBA was followed by a period in strategic management consultancy working here and in the USA.

A move back to newspapers brought me to Merseyside. In 2008, however, painting had taken a full hold and although this coincided with the opening of Staacks,(of which I am a founding Director) it was not until 2012 that I had the chance to show my efforts as a full body of work. Thankfully this sell out show encouraged me to continue to question, investigate and enquire, resulting in an ever evolving visual vocabulary in trying to assimilate and express the surrounding land, sea as well as life drawing and the occasional still life.
