Hi, On Monday we concluded our colour project and completed Painting Challenge 8.

I thought that the work produced over the three weeks was excellent and it was interesting to note how previous challenges have influenced the way we approached this project. During the session I mentioned the Fauvist painter Charles Camoin, and I have attached one of his interior/exterior paintings. It looks so simple and yet the light and colour work really well. I like the way that complimentary colours are working to set the tone of the work

and create atmosphere. The other artist / teacher that I mentioned was Harry Thrubron who worked at Leeds Met Univ in the 60’s. He was a great advocate of ‘basic design’ - and he shaped art education especially at Foundation Course level across the UK. His approach mirrored aspects of our previous Challenge concerning marks and gesture. I have attached a link.

Please note : owing to the difficult lighting conditions in the hall and reflections from glass etc, the quality of some of the photographs is unfortunately a bit mixed but hopefully good enough to give you a good enough view of the exhibition.
