Female Painters

I’ve added two exotic paintings by Dora Carrington. Carrington is better  known for her ‘surrealist’ landscape paintings, but the two still life studies are remarkably powerful and present. Note the composition of both pictures and the signs and symbols in the second work. She had a complicated life and sad death, noted in the attached article.

I’ve also included an article  from The Sunday Times that details a review of the work of the 18th / 29thC artist Angelica Kauffman.

Here is one of her fine self portraits reviewed in the article much more favourably than her historical paintings.

Please note : owing to the difficult lighting conditions in the hall and reflections from glass etc, the quality of some of the photographs is unfortunately a bit mixed but hopefully good enough to give you a good enough view of the exhibition.
