This week we looked at the work of the American painter Jon Redmond. I have attached a couple of his still life paintings. There is a sense of light and colour in both works. He uses these simple kitchen utensils, as a vehicle to make dynamic interesting paintings that focus on colour, light, and composition. Henry Ryland
A drawing on the Antiques Roadshow over a week ago was by Henry Ryland. It is a lovely study and it captures beautifully the shape and form of the sitter through light and shadow. We discussed in one of my classes how the drawing was made and the techniques used to gain such tonal contrasts. Pattern in Painting
In the Still Life class we looked at the work of a Matisse. We talked about his use of pattern in painting, and how this was influenced by the work of Cezanne. I have attached the Painting by Matisse that we discussed. We have previously looked at the way that Cezanne allows marks and pattern to merge with objects, so the same is true in this painting.
